Restaurant and Cafe Reviews in Edinburgh
We love eating out in Edinburgh so writing our Edinburgh restaurant reviews, takeaway reviews and cafe reviews was no great chore. Here's our review of Calistoga.
Review of Calistoga, Edinburgh
The great thing about California is that Arnie's in charge - perhaps at some point soon his political career'll go the way of his acting one, run out of ideas and spur lots of rehashes of the same old policy ideas. Still, while this restaurant's Californian, it has no resemblance to Arnie's political career, as
re-hashes definitely ain't on the menu. Forget burgers and think tasty, healthy, inventive food. The owner is always on-hand to answer any questions as many times as you want, too. Call him over, and he'll be back.

Iggs Restuarant
If you want classy, but un-intimidating, 'Iggs' is the restaurant for you. The innovative menu offers up classic Spanish tapas, re-interpreted with cunning little twists. We enjoyed delicious Presa Iberica – Iberico pork and caramelized belly, but for fish fans, seafood stew a Read more about Iggs Restuarant
Two Thin Laddies
Two thin laddies... entered this café and weren't thin for long. Perhaps one of them was Black Books star Dylan Moran – he has been known to linger over a meal here. Who could resist the home-cooked lovelies on offer? Classic dishes rule the roost; pasta bakes, quiche, macaroni chee Read more about Two Thin Laddies
Haldanes
Crouching beneath the Albany Hotel, Haldanes continues the luxurious hotel vibe; think boudoir sophistication with Frank Sinatra crooning in the background - odd but successful. Food is excellent, courses are beautifully presented pieces of art: parcelled, drizzled and balanced to perfection. A crab Read more about Haldanes

Chocolate Soup
This is surely the closest one can get to Willy Wonka's famous establishment and there's certainly enough confectionary here to turn you into an Augustus Gloop. There are puritanical alternatives, including bowls of hot porridge and a range of fresh coffees, but only hardened chocoholics s... Read more about Chocolate Soup
Guiliano's on the Shore
All the Italian favourites are at Guilianos on the Shore from pizza and pasta, to waiters that could double as the Super Mario Brothers. The traditional food's freshly cooked and there's a wine list as long as the Water of Leith. There's even live accordion music Mon–Wed nights,... Read more about Guiliano's on the Shore
Bar Italia
This centrally located Italian joint is consistently busy, noisy and full of energy, and so it should be. The food is fresh, tasty and cheap and if you rock up with twenty mates they won't even bat an eyelid. As such it's perfect for birthday celebrations with plenty of banter and enthusia... Native State
GoOutIn wishes 'Avoid like syphilis' would suffice as a review, but we're afraid that might leave a lot of you feeling angry and shortchanged. You should probably channel your rage towards this abysmal establishment though – it's dark, uncomfortable, and full of students who ... Read more about Native State
Buffalo Grill
Lusting for a hunk of grilled beef? We thought so. Wild West décor and wafts of Aberdeen Angus beckon diners through the doors of Buffalo Grill. The wood-panelled dining room is the perfect place to ponder which juicy steak or massive burger to order. Prawns or homemade salsa as a starter wil... Read more about Buffalo Grill

Wok Bar
Packed with students and hip young things grabbing a bite to eat before they head off to drink pints with gin chasers and grope each other. Kavios
Kavio's has always had a reputation in Leith for serving quality food. The prices are on the upper end of reasonable, but if you're feeling flash, it's worth it. Formerly a different, more attractive building over the water and it's current location lacks romance. Still, get over... Read more about Kavios
Toast
Names can be misleading. Take Toast for example. Sure you can buy toast if you want, but given the food on offer that would be a pretty foolish choice, with cooked breakfasts, croissants, salmon, scrambled eggs and homemade cakes on the menu. We'd say it was like an orgasm happening in your mou... Read more about Toast
Indian Mela
Being an Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant, you can expect a bit more variety than your usual student–ville curry hut. Unfortunately the proximity of Indian Mela to students has rubbed off, with the interior grot closely resembling many a halls of residence. BYO is no problem, just remember th... Thai Lemongrass
It's hard to find Thai places that aren't just a takeaway or an afterthought of a Chinese restaurant, but luckily Thai Lemongrass is as authentic as you'll get. The menu is extensive and covers pretty much everything you could possibly imagine provided you can't pronounce it, and... Read more about Thai Lemongrass
